UPDATE
January 13, 2023
Due to the severity of the winter storm and the extreme temperatures, Bishop Joensen has granted a dispensation from the Sunday Mass obligation for the Diocese of Des Moines. At Ss. John and Paul, Masses will go on as scheduled, at 5 pm today, and 8:30 and 10:30 tomorrow morning, but all parishioners are encouraged to take caution and use their best judgement to stay safe!
Note that the National Weather Service has issued an urgent winter weather message, which includes a winter storm warning beginning tonight, a blizzard warning through most of the day tomorrow, stretching into Saturday, and then a wind chill warning stretching through Tuesday morning which they describe as “life threatening wind chills.”
The parish office will be closed tomorrow, Friday, January 12th so staff can remain safe. Fr. Mark will be here for Mass, but we cannot guarantee that the parking lot will be plowed in time, and we caution everyone to use their best judgement and stay safe!
Please exercise prudence regarding this weekend's Mass attendance, especially if you must travel great distances across the countryside to reach our church. Know that under these circumstances it is permissible for you to stay at home and participate in Mass online or on TV.
Please be smart and know you have the support of the Diocese in making prudent, safe decisions. Stay safe and warm!
