Faith in Action (High School)
Faith in Action is a service program that started in the Des Moines area in the 90's. This program initially started with mission trips to other states as a way to provide service opportunities for young people. After a few years the youth ministers of Des Moines got together and decided that there are plenty of things to do in Des Moines that provide service. Now every year during spring break a group of high school students from a number of different parishes come together and work at various sites around the city. This year Ss. John and Paul is hosting the Faith in Action group. We want to have high school students from this parish participate in the program. It starts on Sunday and ends Wednesday. The cost is $90. Students will stay here at the parish each night and go out to work sites during the day. If you have any questions please contact Terry. Just 5 Days (Jr. High)
It is time to start making plans for this summer's junior high service trip. The service trip will take place the week of July 16th-20th.The program that Ss. John and Paul uses is called Just5Days. We have attended J5D the past two summers and have had a great experience. There are two work sites available to us. Kansas City, KS and Springfield, IL. We will decide on a spot at a later date.Just5Days is a five-day experience of service, hands-on learning activities, prayer and liturgy, and community building designed for groups of middle school youth and their adult leaders.The cost of the trip is $275 per person, but we are going to try to make it affordable for all. We will do some fundraising to try to get the cost down to $125 per person. This means that we are going to have to do a little work, but it shouldn't be a problem. It is time to start making plans for this summer's senior high service trip. The service trip will take place the week of July 15th-21st. This year, the senior high students (entering 9th grade through graduated seniors) will be working with Catholic Heart Workcamp!Catholic Heart Workcamp is a week-long experience of service, hands-on learning activities, prayer and liturgy, and community building designed for groups of young adults and their leaders. Members of our parish have attended Catholic Heart Workcamps in the past and have found them to be challenging - not only in the service being provided, but also in exploring our Catholic faith deeper than we have in the past.
The initial cost of the trip is $320 (plus travel expenses), but we are going to try to make it affordable for all. We will do some fundraising to try to get the cost down to $200 per person. This means that we are going to have to do a little work, but it shouldn't be a problem.
Twenty five spots have been reserved for this trip, as we travel to Davison, MI. A deposit of $100 will hold a space for you! If you are interested in having your student go on the trip please contact Joan by Jan. 30th.
