Trips to El Salvador have been suspended due to COVID-19 and political unrest.
Our next trip to build homes in El Salvador is yet to be determined. We’re heading to El Salvador to work on the Building Community initiative in Jocoaitique, Morazán. This is a multi-house building initiative sponsored by Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity in a rural area that is rich in historical significance and natural beauty, in spite of being located in one of El Salvador’s most impoverished areas.
Leon and Becky Stidfole are leaders of our El Salvador trips.
The cost of this trip is approximately $1,300 per person. The trip fee includes in-country group lodging (typically two or three people to a room), ground transportation, a team First Aid kit, access to a translator and purified water at your work site, team meals, supplemental travel medical insurance, etc.
Items not covered in the trip cost include:
Your air travel to and from El Salvador (roughly $650-800, booked on your own after consulting with Leon.
Additional snacks or beverages that you may wish to purchase in El Salvador and any meals or snacks during air travel
The $10 fee that's required for entering the country
Any costs you may incur preparing for your trip such as visiting your doctor or applying for a passport.
El Salvador uses the U.S. dollar as currency, so you won't need to exchange currency. The country is easy to get to by plane. Most travelers can reach El Salvador by mid-day, Saturday, November 4 if they depart from Des Moines early that morning. Some choose to travel from other airports to take advantage of lower pricing.
