Day 4 Our Bible point for today was "Even though you do wrong . . . Jesus loves you!" Here's how this all came together tonight:
Dr. Paws began the night breaking a rule! He fed the hyena's, oh no!
Bible Adventures with the Wild Animals began with the story of Jesus dying on the cross. They each made a mark on the cross to show that they have made some bad choices at times. Each child buried Jesus in a shroud in a paper tube with a paper rock stuck in the end. They closed their eyes for prayer and when they opened them, Jesus was gone and the rock was still there! He didn't stay dead!
The Zoo Keepers also focused on the cross and our own sinfulness. They wrote their name on one of the three crosses in the scene and heard the story of the crucifixion. One of the thieves owned his sinfulness and the other denied Jesus. The good thief's cross leaned against the cross of Christ to show how much we need Jesus.
Wild Animals got to squirt water at a balloon covered in shaving cream, to show how Jesus can wash our sins away.
Zoo Keeper games involved throwing wads of newspaper across a barrier. It didn't work very well. This shows us that we can't "get rid of sin" without help. Jesus is our help. Then we tossed balls into hoops. Not all of the balls hit their target. Well, neither do we all the time. Jesus loves us anyway!
At Imagination Station, the zoo keepers learned about the tremendous gift of water on our planet. The homes we build in Habitat all have running water. Many homes around the world do not have this necessity! We folded paper origami cups to remember the gift of water.
Wild Animals Craft time used stickers to put broken hearts back together. We break our own hearts when we make bad choices, and we break the hearts of others too.
Critter cafe served up a cinnamon and sugar slice of heaven! Cinnamon by itself smells very good, just like our bad choices might feel good at the time. But cinnamon tastes bitter, and so are our sins. Jesus provides the sweetness, just like sugar, by showing us a better way to live!
Service Projects: We have collected another $217.38 for a grand total of $339.38. Great JOB! Our school supplies shopping cart is almost full! One more day may do the job!
All are invited: Coffee and rolls after mass on Sunday AND our VBS crew will sing their songs. Wear your T-Shirts!
