I became involved in disability advocacy several years ago. As the parent of a child with special needs I recognized the gaps in the systems which families were required to become familiar with in order to provide their loved ones with critical services. These services included: healthcare, education, transportation, employment and daily caregiver needs, as well as the funding to pay for these services. To receive needed family or individual services is often a daunting undertaking and overwhelmed families simply give up. I have served on numerous state-wide committees to better serve families. I have also worked for Heartland AEA as a Parent Educator Coordinator. I am passionate about helping families find a way to access services and improve the life of their family members. It is with this passion and my desire to make sure every member of SSJP can actively participate in the life of Ss. John and Paul Parish, I have agreed to accept this newly created parish position.
